Bernard A. Wojciechowski's Obituary
Bernard A. ‘Benny’ Wojciechowski passed away on Friday, July 28, 2017 at the age of 96 years. He was born in Buffalo, New York. He proudly served his country in the US Army in World War II, serving in China, Burma and India. While serving, he was quartermaster for four trips over the Burma Road, assuring supplies made their way to China.
Benny worked as a truck driver but his love was clearly for baseball. He coached, played and managed several AAA Muny championship teams in the 1950’s. He also coached girls Muny championship teams in the 1970’s and 1980’s. Benny was an Umpire for Western New York Umpire Association for 25 years. He was actively involved in Diocesan CYO where he coached several championship teams. In 1972 he was presented the CYO Pax Christi Award. In 1979 he was awarded Manager of the Year for the City of Buffalo.
Bernard was also an original member of St. Casimir Bingo for 30 years.
He was married to Rose Skolimowski for 53 years. She preceded him in death. He was also predeceased by 5 brothers, 2 sisters, 8 sisters-in-law, and 4 brothers-in-law. He is survived by his daughter, Dianne (Matthew) Wojciechowski; 2 granddaughters, Cheryl (Ken Ludwa) Wojciechowski and Marci (Jonathan Fortmiller) Wojciechowski; 2 great-grandchildren, Rhys Wojcie-Ludwa and Jay Wojcie-Ludwa and a multitude of nieces and nephews.
Mass will be scheduled for 10:00 AM on Saturday, August 26 at St. Bernard’s Catholic Church, 1990 Clinton Street, Buffalo, NY14206. Interment will follow at St. Stanislaus Cemetery, Buffalo.
