Today with great sorrow I learn that Prof. Stephen Textor passed away.
Thanks to my friendship with Prof. Fervenza and Prof. Sethi I had the honor to meet him in person a since 2011 when I was able to host him in Cagliari at the Mayo Clinic Day in Sardinia together with friends and colleagues from Rochester (MN).
Prof. Textor was already well known to us Italian Nephrologists for his conspicuous scientific production since 1973 on the topics of hypertension particularly on nephro-vascular hypertension, ischemic-atherosclerotic nephropathy, the RAAS system, glomerular filtration rate, monorenal status, body volumes, inflammation, and renal cell metabolism in both native and transplanted kidney.
All of his research has led to great clinical and practical advances that have enabled nephrological clinicians around the world (including myself) to better care for our kidney patients.
Prof. Textor was a great man, a fine and elegant in his work as a clinician as scientist and as a man too.
I thank him for what he granted me and the Cagliari School of Nephrology and all my colleagues.
Over the years we got to know and appreciate his dear wife who always accompanied him to Cagliari, and to her before all and to his family and colleagues and friends at Mayo Cinic in Rochester we extend our heartfelt condolences.
Antonello Pani and all Nephrologist of Nephrology Department in Cagliari
